Step-by-Step: Create Your Christmas Doormat

Give your front door a festive makeover with this simple, fun DIY Christmas welcome mat project. Using White Knight Squirts Metallic Red and Metallic Green, you can create a custom Christmas design that greets your guests in style.

This project is perfect for beginners, quick to complete and a great way to add some holiday personality to your home.

What You'll Need

Before You Start

Work in a well-ventilated space and lay down cardboard or a drop sheet to protect surfaces from overspray.

Step 1 — Create Your Stencils

In this example, we’re creating Christmas tree shapes, but feel free to get creative such as baubles, stars or even a bold “Merry Christmas” all work beautifully.

Tip: Using thicker cardboard stencils will make spraying the designs easier!

Cut your shapes or lettering from cardboard and tape them securely onto the mat to prevent them from moving.

Tip: Ensure your doormat is clean and free of dirt and debris.

Step 2 — Add Festive Colour

Shake your cans of White Knight Squirts Metallic Green and Metallic Red thoroughly.
Spray lightly in layers, holding the can around 15–20 cm from the surface.
Alternate colours to create a fun, festive effect.

Tip: Use a piece of cardboard to avoid overspray at the edges of the stencil.

Step 3 — Reveal Your Design

Allow the paint to dry completely before removing the stencils.
Your custom Christmas welcome mat is ready to display!
