White Knight Rust Guard Structural Steel is a rust preventative paint that gives the appearance of structural steel.

Ideal for covering welds and joins on structural steel.

Suitable Surfaces

White Knight Rust Guard Structural Steel is suitable for use on structural steel such as Duragal®.

Safety & First Aid

  • KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
  • This product is highly flammable. Store and use away from heat and eliminate any source of ignition.
  • Soak any clothes used in water immediately after use as they may self ignite.
  • If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label. Do not induce vomiting.
  • If in eyes, immediately flush with running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Avoid breathing vapour or mist.
  • Use only with adequate ventilation.
  • If on skin, remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Do not use solvents or thinners.
  • Warning - Misuse by concentrating and inhaling contents can be harmful or fatal.

Caution

AEROSOL:
Keep in a cool place and out of sun. Contents under pressure. Do not puncture or incinerate this can, even when empty.

Aluminium based paints may develop pressure in storage. Open the container carefully and wear gloves and eye protection. Do not allow water to contaminate the paint as this will cause build up of pressure. Store in a cool place out of the sun.

Environment

  1. Do not pour unwanted paint down the drain.
  2. Keep unwanted paint in sealed containers for disposal via special chemical waste collections.
  3. Residual aerosol paint should be sprayed onto newspaper, allowed to dry and disposed of via domestic waste collections.
  4. Empty paint containers should be left open in a well ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle steel containers via can recycling programs.
  5. Empty aerosol cans are recyclable via steel can recycling programs.
  6. Disposal of empty paint containers via domestic recycling programs may differ between local authorities. Check with your local council first.

Preparation

  1. Remove all loose material and grind welds back to bare metal.
  2. The surface must be clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, grease, oil, rust scale and other contaminants.
  3. Degrease with White Knight Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps.
  4. In severe conditions prime with White Knight Rust Guard Cold Gal.
  5. If spraying, cover surrounding areas to protect from overspray.

Application

AEROSOL:

  1. Shake can vigorously for 1 minute before use and regularly during use.
  2. Hold the can upright approximately 15-20 cm from the surface.
  3. Press button firmly and spray with a smooth sweeping motion. Apply a pre-wetting mist coat followed by a full even coat, overlapping each spray pass. To prevent paint sagging, avoid spraying too close to the surface or spraying too heavily.
  4. Repeat if necessary.


Do not use when air or surface temperature is below 15°C or above 30°C

BRUSH ON:

  1. Stir thoroughly with a broad flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion for at least 5 minutes before use and continue to stir at regular intervals during application.
  2. Apply 2 coats by brush or spray gun.


Do not use when air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C

Coverage

AEROSOL: Approximately 1.5m² per can.

BRUSH ON: Approximately 10m² per litre, depending on the nature of the surface.

Drying

AEROSOL:  Touch dry in 15 minutes. Re-coat after 1 hour.

BRUSH ON: Touch dry in 15 minutes. Re-coat after 1 hour.

Drying will be slower in cold or humid conditions, in the absence of ventilation or where heavy film builds are applied.

Clean Up

AEROSOL: To prevent nozzle blocking, after use turn can upside down and press button until only gas escapes.

Overspray can be removed while still wet with White Knight Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps.

BRUSH ON: Clean brushes and equipment with White Knight Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps immediately after use.

Hints and Tips
  • Use a drop sheet to cover objects from overspray. Overspray can travel long distances so make sure you cover a wide area.
  • Use masking tape or newspaper to prevent paint from going on areas you don't want it to.
  • Have lots of rags handy for any cleaning.
