White Knight Chalkboard Paint easily transforms surfaces into a chalkboard.

Chalkboard Paint is a great way to add fun to children's bedrooms and play areas. It is also great for use in kitchens, offices, schools, cafes and on table tennis table tops. The list of possibilities is endless!

Suitable Surfaces

Chalkboard Paint may be used on most smooth timber surfaces including plywood and hardboard; previously coated chalkboard surfaces; tennis tables; primed metal surfaces.

Safety & First Aid

  • KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
  • This product is highly flammable. Store and use away from heat and eliminate any source of ignition.
  • Soak any clothes used in water immediately after use as they may self ignite.
  • If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label. Do not induce vomiting.
  • If in eyes, immediately flush with running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Avoid breathing vapour or mist.
  • Use only with adequate ventilation.
  • If on skin, remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Do not use solvents or thinners.
  • Warning - Misuse by concentrating and inhaling contents can be harmful or fatal.

Caution

HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. Keep can away from flame and heat and eliminate any source of ignition. Keep can in a cool place and out of sun. Contents of can under pressure. Do not puncture or incinerate the can, even when empty.

Environment

  1. Residual paint should be sprayed onto newspaper, allowed to dry and then disposed of via domestic waste collections.
  2. Empty aerosol cans are recyclable via steel can recycling programs.
  3. Important: Deliberate misuse of this product to damage public or private property is a crime.

Preparation

Previously Painted Surfaces:

  1. Thoroughly clean the surface and ensure it is free from grease, oil, dirt, mould, rust scale and other contaminants.
  2. Fill nail holes and cracks with appropriate filler and sand smooth.
  3. Remove all loose and flaking paint.
  4. Thoroughly sand glossy or enamel surfaces.
  5. Wipe old chalkboards clean with mineral turps and allow to dry.

Bare Timber, Hardboard, Plywood:

  1. Thoroughly clean the surface and ensure it is free from grease, oil, dirt, mould, rust scale and other contaminants.
  2. Fill nail holes and cracks with appropriate filler and sand smooth.
  3. Sand surface to remove raised timber grain.
  4. Highly absorbent or composite timbers such as MDF should be primed with Taubmans 3 in 1 Primer.

Bare Metal:

  1. Thoroughly clean the surface and ensure it is free from grease, oil, dirt, mould, rust scale and other contaminants.

AEROSOL:

BEFORE SPRAYING

  1. Shake can vigorously for 1 minute to ensure colour uniformity. Shake can occasionally during use.
  2. Remove cap carefully. Avoid using sharp objects that may puncture the can.
  3. Test spray on a small inconspicuous area to ensure surface compatibility and finish suitability.


SPRAYING

  1. Select the nozzle setting: The horizontal setting should be used when spraying up and down and the vertical setting should be used when spraying across. To change the nozzle setting, turn the red section on the nozzle.
  2. Hold the can upright approximately 20cm from the surface.
  3. Press button firmly and spray with a smooth sweeping motion, overlapping each spray pass. To prevent paint from sagging, avoid spraying too close to the surface or applying a heavy coat.
  4. Repeat if necessary.
  5. When dry, leave 24 hours before using the surface.
  6. Condition the chalkboard prior to use by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk evenly over the entire surface then wipe off with duster.


Do not use when air or surface temperature is below 15°C or above 30°C or in excessive humidity.

BRUSH ON:

  1. Stir thoroughly with a broad flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion for at least 5 minutes before use and continue to stir at regular intervals during application.
  2. Apply 2 coats by brush or roller.

Coverage

AEROSOL: Approximately 1.5m² per can, depending on the nature of the surface and the amount of overspray.

BRUSH ON: Approximately 14m² per litre, depending on the nature of the surface.

Drying

AEROSOL: Touch dry 20 mins. Re-coat after 2 hours. Leave at least 24 hours before using the surface.

BRUSH ON: Touch dry in 4-6 hours. Re-coat after 16 hours. Leave at least 24 hours before using surface.

Drying times will be slower in cold or humid conditions, in the absence of ventilation or where heavy film builds are applied.

Clean Up

AEROSOL: Overspray can be removed while still wet with Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps. To clean the nozzle after use and prevent blocking turn the can upside down and press button until only gas escapes. BRUSH ON: Clean equipment and brushes with Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps immediately after use.

Hints and Tips
  • To remove a child proof cap insert a screwdriver in the cap and lever it up.
  • Paint will not adhere to glossy or dirty surfaces.
  • Use a drop sheet to cover objects from overspray. Overspray can travel long distances so make sure you cover a wide area.
  • When spraying, spray across object, starting and finishing off to the side. It is better to spray a few light coats than one heavy coat.
  • Practice makes perfect. Do a test piece first on cardboard to get the feeling.
  • Use masking tape or newspaper to prevent paint from going on areas you don't want it to.
  • Have lots of rags handy for any cleaning.
  • Can be used on many types of interior surfaces where a flat finish is required.
  • Ideal for use on table tennis tops.
