White Knight Chalkboard Paint can be used on most smooth timber surfaces including plywood and hardboard; previously coated chalkboard surfaces; tennis tables; primed metal surfaces.

1. PREPARATION

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES:

  • Thoroughly clean the surface and ensure it is free from grease, oil, dirt, mould, rust scale and other contaminants.
  • Fill nail holes and cracks with appropriate filler and sand smooth.
  • Remove all loose and flaking paint.
  • Thoroughly sand glossy or enamel surfaces.
  • Wipe old chalkboards clean with mineral turps and allow to dry.
  • If spraying, cover surrounding areas to protect from overspray.

BARE TIMBER, HARDBOARD, PLYWOOD:

  • Thoroughly clean the surface and ensure it is free from grease, oil, dirt, mould, rust scale and other contaminants.
  • Fill nail holes and cracks with appropriate filler and sand smooth.
  • Sand surface to remove raised timber grain.
  • Highly absorbent or composite timbers such as MDF should be primed with Taubmans 3 in 1 Primer.
  • If spraying, cover surrounding areas to protect from overspray.

BARE METAL:

  • Thoroughly clean the surface and ensure it is free from grease, oil, dirt, mould, rust scale and other contaminants.
  • If spraying, cover surrounding areas to protect from overspray.

2. APPLICATION

AEROSOL APPLICATION: 

BEFORE SPRAYING

  • Shake can vigorously for 1 minute to ensure colour uniformity. Shake can occasionally during use.
  • Remove cap carefully. Avoid using sharp objects that may puncture the can.
  • Test spray on a small inconspicuous area to ensure surface compatibility and finish suitability.

SPRAYING

  • Select the nozzle setting: The  the nozzle setting, turn the red section on the nozzle.
  • Hold the can upright approximately 20cm from the surface.
  • Press button firmly and spray with a smooth sweeping motion, overlapping each spray pass. To prevent paint from sagging, avoid spraying too close to the surface or applying a heavy coat.
  • Repeat if necessary.
  • When dry, leave 24 hours before using the surface.
  • Condition the chalkboard prior to use by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk evenly over the entire surface then wipe off with duster.

Do not use when air or surface temperature is below 15°C or above 30°C or in excessive humidity. 

3. COVERAGE

AEROSOL: Approximately 1.5m² per can, depending on the nature of the surface and the amount of overspray.

BRUSH ON: Approximately 14m² per litre, depending on the nature of the surface

4. SAFETY & FIRST AID

AEROSOL:

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

  • This product is highly flammable. Store and use away from heat and eliminate any source of ignition.
  • If swallowed, drink plenty of water and seek medical advice immediately. Do not induce vomiting.
  • If in eyes, immediately flush with running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Avoid breathing vapour or mist.
  • Use only with adequate ventilation.
  • If on skin, remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Warning - Misuse by concentrating and inhaling contents can be harmful or fatal.

5. CAUTION

HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. Keep can away from flame and heat and eliminate any source of ignition. Keep can in a cool place and out of sun. Contents of can under pressure. Do not puncture or incinerate the can, even when empty.

6. ENVIRONMENT

AEROSOL:

  • Residual paint should be sprayed onto newspaper, allowed to dry and then disposed of via domestic waste collections.
  • Empty aerosol cans are recyclable via steel can recycling programs.
  • Important: Deliberate misuse of this product to damage public or private property is a crime.

BRUSH ON:

  • Do not pour unwanted paint down the drain.
  • Keep unwanted paint in sealed containers for disposal via special chemical waste collections.
  • Empty paint containers should be left open in a well ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle steel containers via can recycling programs.
  • Disposal of empty paint containers via domestic recycling programs may differ between local authorities. Check with your local council first.
