Preparation

Preparation

The surface must be thoroughly cleaned, dry and free from grease, oil, dirt, salt rust scale and other contaminants. All loose material must be removed by wire brushing or mechanical sander until a firm metal base is established.
BEFORE SPRAYING Cover all necessary areas to protect from overspray. It is essential to shake the can for at least one minute after mixing ball rattles to ensure product uniformity. Shake can occasionally during use. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 15°C or above 30°C or in excessive humidity.

Brush On: Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Apply one to two coats by brush, roller or spray. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C. Rust Guard Stir thoroughly with a broad, flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion for at least 5 minutes before use. Stir at regular intervals during application. Apply 2 coats.

 

Aerosol: Spray outside or in a well ventilated area away from fire and heaters. Test spray first on a small inconspicuous area to ensure surface compatibility and finish suitability. Hold the can upright approximately 15-20 cm from the surface. Press button firmly. Spray with a smooth sweeping motion. Apply a pre-wetting mist coat followed by a full even coat. Overlap each spray pass. Repeat if necessary. To prevent paint sagging, avoid spraying too close to the surface or spraying too heavy a coat. After Spraying: To clean nozzle after use and prevent blocking, turn the can upside down and press button until only gas escapes.

Coverage

Brush On Up to 14 square metres per litre depending on the nature of the surface. Clean Up with Rust Guard Solvent Aerosol Up to 1 to 1.5 square metres per unit depending on the surface and the amount of overspray.
Drying Times

Touch dry 10 minutes Re-Coat After 2 hours Drying times may be extended in low temperatures and high humidity.
Clean Up

Clean Up

Clean brushes and equipment with Rust Guard Solvent immediately after use.
Overcoating

Overcoating

May be overcoated after 2 hours with solvent or water based finishes. Drying will be slower in cold or humid conditions, in the absence of ventilation or where heavy film builds are applied.
