Preparation

Preparation

Surface preparation is vital to achieving the best performance from a concrete paving paint. Concrete Surfaces Unpainted: New concrete must cure before it is painted. This time allows the chemicals and moisture, which prevent adhesion, to rise to the surface of the concrete so they can be removed. Using an oil-based paving paint on new concrete will require a curing time of at least 12 weeks before painting. All concrete surfaces, new or old must be acid etched for good adhesion of the paint to the concrete. Etching the surface with White Knight Concrete Etcher is a safer, environmentally friendly alternative to conventional acid etching. Concrete Surfaces - Painted Check for lifting of old paint prior to re-painting. If it’s not sound, the total removal of the old paint is required. Scrape off all loose and flaking paint. Remove all contaminants such as dirt, grease, oil or dust. Sand glossy or smooth surfaces to improve adhesion. Clean thoroughly with a strong detergent and rinse thoroughly with water, then allow to dry. Grease or oil spots may need a degreasing agent to remove them prior to painting. Before repainting, create a test area to ensure compatibility with the old coating. After 24 hours of drying, check for lifting of old paint or poor adhesion. If problems are observed total removal of the old paint is required. Interior Timber For unpainted surfaces, sand thoroughly and dust down. Fill nail holes and cracks before painting. Lightly sand between coats. To Improve Slip Resistance If additional slip resistance is required add White Knight Pave and Deck Grip to the paint before application. Follow the instructions on the pack.

Application Details

Application Details

Stir Thoroughly with a broad, flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion for at least 5 minutes before use. Stir at regular intervals during application. For non-porous surfaces it is recommended that the first coat be diluted with turps (10-15%) to achieve good penetration and adhesion. Apply two coats to a correctly prepared surface for maximum durability. Do not thin the second coat. Apply using a brush, or roller. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C.
