Suitable Surfaces

Hammered Finish is ideal for use on metal surfaces including fences, railings, roofs, gutters, patio and garden furniture, bicycles, letter boxes, light machinery and garden tools. The unique finish is ideal for hiding scratches and imperfections on rough or damaged metal surfaces. Hammered Finish may also be applied to suitably primed timber and masonry surfaces.

The surface must be thoroughly cleaned and free from grease, oil, dirt, salt, rust scale and other contaminants. Thoroughly sand new metal and lightly sand previously painted surfaces to ensure maximum adhesion. Remove loose rust and flaking paint with a wire brush, scraper or mechanical sander, for best results remove rust back to bare metal. Clean and allow to dry before painting. Prime galvanised iron and other non-ferrous metal surfaces with White Knight True Bite or White Knight SLS Etch Primer. Note: Do NOT use SLS Etch Primer as a primer with the aerosol Hammer finishproduct. Finish.In severe conditions prime steel with Rust Guard Metal Primer. Timber, masonry and other unpainted surfaces should be primed or sealed. Lightly sand previously painted surfaces. BEFORE SPRAYING Cover all necessary areas to protect from overspray. It is essential to shake the can for at least one minute after mixing ball rattles to ensure product uniformity. Shake can occasionally during use. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 15°C or above 30°C or in excessive humidity. After Spraying: To clean the nozzle after use and to prevent blocking, turn the can upside down and press button until only gas escapes.

Brush On: Stir thoroughly with a broad, flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion for at least 5 minutes before use. Stir at regular intervals during application. Apply by brush or for large surfaces, a roller or spray gun may be used. Apply 2 coats. Thin sparingly with turps only if necessary. Over-thinning will affect pattern. Test application method and result on a small area first. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C. Tinting Up to 1Y per litre of All Purpose Tinting Colourants can be added.

Aerosol: Spray outside or in a well ventilated area away from fire and heaters. Test spray first on a small inconspicuous area to ensure surface compatibility and finish suitability. Hold the can upright approximately 15-20 cm from the surface. Press button firmly. Spray with a smooth sweeping motion. Apply a pre-wetting mist coat followed by a full even coat. Overlap each spray pass. Repeat if necessary. To prevent paint sagging, avoid spraying too close to the surface or spraying too heavy a coat.

Brush On: Up to 10 square metres per litre depending on the nature of the surface. Aerosol: Up to 1 to 1.5 square metres per unit depending on the nature of the surface and the amount of overspray.

Drying Times

Touch Dry Brush On: 1 hour Aerosol: 30 minutes. Re-Coat Brush On: After 24 hours Aerosol: After 1 hour and before 2 hours, otherwise leave 24 hours before recoating. Drying times will be slower in cold or humid conditions, in the absence of ventilation or where heavy film builds are applied.

Clean Up

Clean Up

Clean All equipment with Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps. Important: Do not re-use painting equipment for non-hammered paint finishes unless it is thoroughly clean. Do not re-use mineral turps.

The horizontal setting is used when spraying up and down and press button until only gas escapes.
To clean nozzle after use and prevent blocking turn the can upside down and press button until only gas escapes.
