Thorough cleaning and etching of the concrete is extremelyimportant to ensure adhesion of the coating to the substrate. Do not paint over damp concrete. The surface must be thoroughly cleaned, dry and free from dust, dirt, grease, oil, efflorescence(white salts), moss, mould and other contaminants. Remove all loose and flaking material.Repair and fill all cracks and damaged areas with appropriate exterior cement filler. Allow newconcrete to cure for at least 4 weeks before coating. Wet surfaces should be allowed 5 days offine weather to ensure they are properly dry.
SMOOTH or STEEL FLOATED CONCRETE must be acid etched. Etching the surface produces a rough surface profile for the coating to adhere. Etch the concrete with White Knight ConcreteEtcher, follow the instructions on the pack.• After etching, it is essential to remove all loose residues before painting. This can be done bywater blasting or scrubbing with a stiff bristle broom followed by thorough rinsing with a strong water jet from a garden hose before the surface dries.• Ensure the etching has roughened the surface and created porosity. It should feel like #180grade sandpaper—if not, repeat the etching process. Test for loose residue with adhesive tape.If cement or loose material is picked up on the tape, repeat the cleaning process. If looseresidues persist, call White Knight Customer Service on 131 686 for further Technical advice.
CONCRETE SURFACES – PREVIOUSLY PAINTED Prepare surface as detailed above. Ensure that adhesion of the existing coating is sound as these may be sites of potential failure. (An easy way to check is to cut a small “X” into the coating, rubbing a piece of adhesive tape over it and quickly ripping it off. Adhesion is sound if none of the coating is removed.) If in doubt remove the entire coating back to the concrete base. Water-based acrylic based paint can be coated directly. When painting over oil-based paint, sand thoroughly to ensure maximum adhesion.
WEATHER CONDITIONS Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 35°C or when the humidity is greater than 80% during application and drying. Do not apply to damp surfaces or when rainfall is imminent, as moisture contamination will prevent the curing process resulting in a soft finish.
MIXING RATIO Incorrect mixing ratios will result in coating failure.Stir Part A thoroughly with a broad, flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion before adding Part B.Mix 2 Parts A : 1 Part B by volume. Add Part B and stir for 5 minutes. Stir at regular intervalsduring application. When mixing Part A and Part B in quantities less than the pack size, usea calibrated container or ruler to ensure the correct mixing ratio DO NOT RESEAL CONTAINERS OF CATALYSED PRODUCT–DANGER OF EXPANSION.POT LIFE 1hour maximum. Do not use product after pot life has been exceeded.
Touch dry in 4 hours. Recoat after 4–6 hours (mix fresh product). Re-key after 7 days. Hard dry 24 hours, full cure 7 days. Drying times may be extended in low temperature and high humidity.
CARE OF NEW PAINT WORK Avoid exposure to steam and condensation for 48 hours after painting
