Suitable Surfaces

Chalkboard Paint is suitable for all previously coated chalkboard surfaces or other surfaces such as timber, plywood or hardwood where a chalkboard is required. Chalkboard Paint Is also suitable for tennis tables and can used over suitable primed metal surface.

Preparation

Preparation

The surface must be thoroughly cleaned and free from dust, grease, oil, mould, rust scale and other contaminants. Fill nail holes and cracks with appropriate filler and sand smooth. Previously Painted Surfaces: Prepare surface as detailed above. Remove all loose and flaking paint. Thoroughly sand glossy or enamel surfaces. Wipe old chalkboards clean with mineral turps and allow to dry. Bare Timber, Hardboard, Plywood: Prepare surface as detailed above. Sand surface to remove raised timber grain. Highly absorbent or composite timbers such as MDF should be primed with White Knight MDF Primer. Bare Metal: Prepare surface as detailed above. Bare ferrous metals should be primed with White Knight Metal Primer. Prime galvanised iron and other non-ferrous metal surfaces with Rust Guard True Bite or SLS Etch Primer.

BRUSH APPLICATION: Stir thoroughly with a broad, flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion for at least 5 minutes before use. Stir at regular intervals during application. Apply two coats by brush or roller. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C

AEROSOL APPLICATION: Cover all necessary areas to protect from overspray. It is essential to shake the can for at least one minute after mixing ball rattles to ensure product uniformity. Shake can occasionally during use. Do not use when the air or surface temperature is below 15°C or above 30°C or in excessive humidity. Spray outside or in a well ventilated area away from fire and heaters. Test spray first on a small inconspicuous area to ensure surface compatibility and finish suitability. Hold the can upright approximately 15-20 cm from the surface. Press button firmly. Spray with a smooth sweeping motion. Apply a pre-wetting mist coat followed by a full even coat. Overlap each spray pass. Repeat if necessary. To prevent paint sagging, avoid spraying too close to the surface or spraying too heavy a coat.

Brush on: Up to 14 square metres per litre depending on the nature of the surface Clean Up with mineral turps Aerosol: Up to 1 - 1.5 square metres per unit depending on the nature of the surface and the amount of overspray.

 


Drying Times

Drying Times

Touch dry Brush on: 4 - 6 hours. Aerosol: 20 mins. Re-Coat Brush on: after 16 hours. Aerosol: after 2 hours. Leave at least 24 hours before using the surface. Drying times will be slower in cold or humid conditions, in the absence of ventilation or where heavy film builds are applied.

Overspray can be removed while still wet with Rust Guard Solvent or mineral turps.

Can be used on many types of interior surfaces where a flat finish is required. Ideal for use on table tennis tops.
When painting over MDF use White Knight MDF Primer.
To make a magnetic chalkboard paint over a galvanised sheet that has been primed with SLS Etch Primer first.

To remove a child proof cap insert a screwdriver in the cap and lever it upThe horizontal setting is used when spraying up and down and press button until only gas escapes.
To clean nozzle after use and prevent blocking turn the can upside down and press button until only gas escapes.
