Simple, inexpensive, modern seating and storage options with a retro twist are easily realised with the extensive range of spray-on colour available at the local hardware shop.The cubes pictured triple as seats, display platforms and storage while providing the perfect canvas for your own rendition of abstract art.Cubes such as this, made from MDF or plywood, can be made by the home handyman or bought in whitewood or raw timber furniture outlets.  MDF will give the best finish.They simply require an undercoat – try White Knight Paints’ Squirts – and then the fun part starts!Choose a base coat from the Squirts range of more than 40 colours, allow to dry and then apply the pattern.The cubes pictured utilise a modern take on the free form abstracts seen on pop music album covers of the 60s.  These patterns can be applied with a can of spray on Squirts gloss enamel paint using a stencil or, alternatively, hand painted using Splashes quick drying gloss acrylic enamel.The wide range of colours available in Squirts spray on colour provides a great colour palette for any type of ‘pop’ theme from browns and oranges to purples, pinks, greens and blues – as well as, of course, the perennial blacks, whites and neutrals.Squirts undercoat and Squirts cans of colour retail for $7.20 for a 310g can.  Splashes brush on gloss acrylic retails for $7.20 for a 100ml can and $9.20 for 250ml.  The entire range of White Knight Paints speciality paints is available from hardware stores and paint outlets nationally.
