A MODERN TWIST FOR METAL FURNITURE
An ingenious method of updating outmoded metal furniture is with a quick spray of a one-coat-only combined primer and top coat. Old metal screens, ornate chairs and tables, plant stands and room dividers can all be given a modern twist by being given a quick wipe over, sanding off any rust and then spraying with one coat of Rust Guard. This clever product, by White Knight Paints, stops rust, primes and topcoats in one easy application, therefore saving both time and money. Rust Guard is the ideal finish for any metal surface inside or out and with a colour offer of about 17 colours any contemporary look can be achieved. The screen and chair pictured were originally finished in a dated, distressed look of cream and eau-de-nil, but the fresh coat of Rust Guard pure white gloss made them the perfect hero features for this contemporary backdrop of hazy grape walls and white stencilled floor. The finish is available in both spray and brush on formats, the spray being ideal for the intricate surfaces of metal furniture. Epoxy modified resins and anti-corrosion additives in Rust Guard provide excellent durability and adhesion – essential for any items to be left outdoors and exposed to the elements. Colours range from white (in matt and gloss finishes), black (matt, satin and gloss finishes) to creams, greys, greens, blue, cherry red and golden yellow. Rust Guard is touch dry in one hour (spray) and in two to four (brush on). It comes in 250ml, 500ml, one and four litre cans plus a 310gm spray can. Prices start from $18 to $75 and $13 for the spray can. Important to note is that Rust Guard spray paint cannot be used for ‘chroming’ (the deliberate inhalation of solvents to achieve a ‘high’); is lead-free; contributes no CFCs to the ozone layer; is shunned by graffiti daubers; and the cans are fully recyclable. Rust Guard, by White Knight Paints, is available from hardware outlets and paint retailers nationally.
